Taxes, drug trafficking, extortion, and international sponsors is how
the Taliban makes money
A question many folks have is, “How does the Taliban make money?!”
"Illegally" is the simple answer to that question.
The Taliban is a terrorist organization that gets their money by forcing the locals to pay them taxes in the regions of Afghanistan where the Taliban has hoisted their flags over.
They shake down business owners who dare do business on their turf. They sell drugs. They sell minerals. And they get sponsorship money from international sponsors of terrorists who are located in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Qatar.
These various sources of illegal income have helped the Taliban to bring in somewhere between $300M to $1.6B a year. Just last year, the Taliban hauled in $160M in taxes. They brought in $460M from the sale of minerals that include copper, marble, and gold to “private companies” in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Qatar.
The drug business (opium and heroin and methamphetamine) has brought the Taliban about $400M a year, while the money from the international sponsors of terrorists has gotten the Taliban about $500M a year. All of that money adds up to about $1.52B a year which is within the $300M to $1.6B range.
The Taliban has put their illegal money to the not so good uses of maintaining their top leaders’ lifestyles, recruiting and training terrorists, educating the locals on the Taliban’s interpretation of Islamic law, and planning, plotting, and carrying out jihads.
And due to the deal the Taliban negotiated with former President Donald John Trump Sr., and the deal President Joseph R. Biden honored, the Taliban will be able to legalize all of their illegal doings.
No longer will the Taliban just be doing business with terrorists and supporters of terrorists, the Taliban will also be doing business with Russia, China, and Iran while receiving “business like” help from the United States.
It’s no doubt that access to the legal sources of income will result in the terrorist organization growing its bank account well beyond the $1.6B mark to something like $32B.
And due to the increase in money, the Taliban will be able to carry out more of its illegal doings on a grandeur scale.
